Tin mining

In the past, tin mining was a major industry in Cornwall, South West Devon and some areas of Somerset. It is recommended that anyone purchasing a property within these areas should have a tin mining search carried out.

Although much of the mining in this area has now ceased, there is still a risk of subsidence from old mine workings affecting properties in the area. These problems can be quite severe with numerous records of buildings cracking or personal injury due to poorly capped shafts.

What does the tin mining search cover?

A tin mining search will reveal whether or not there are any shafts underneath the property and, if so, whether these pose any danger to the property or any proposed development of the land. This is valuable information for any homebuyer or developer in a tin mining area.
